New DCEU Movie Slate Reveals Incredible Future Movie Projects

The DCEU is one of the only two superheroes shared universes in Hollywood. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been dominating the superhero fiction genre ever since 2008. With a plethora of movies under its belt, the MCU has managed to outgun its rival ever since.

The DCEU, launched by DC Films, under the Warner Bros. banner came into being with the 2013 movie Man of Steel. With its dark and bleak storylines, it has only managed to play catch up with MCU since its inception.

The MCU has more than a dozen movies to its credit, while the DCEU only has 5. It would be hardly fair to compare the two while one has a half a decade-long head start.

The DCEU’s latest venture Justice League was panned by the fans and critics for it’s out of the box humor that does not bode well with the tone and pacing set up by Zack Snyder, the quintessential Godfather of the DC Extended Universe.

You know what they say – Better Late than Never. Warner Bros studios finally understand the error of its ways. The recent sate rumored to have been released for DC movies shows us a stark departure from the Whedon-esque kind of feel-good movies and back to the classic, gritty plot elements that the DCEU is actually known for.

The DC slate is said to contain future projects that amount to more than a dozen in numbers. As of now, the next three movies confirmed are Aquaman, Shazam and Wonder Woman 2. Flashpoint is still in the limbo as the movie has failed to find a stable director and there is lack of certainty.

The MCU has had serious success with releasing so many movies back to back, banking on the success of the predecessor movie to help its successor become a blockbuster in itself. The DCEU has learned quite a lot from its failures and setbacks. It has decided to use the Marvel Formula but with a grounded approach.

It won’t release two, three movies in a single year like the MCU as that would water down the Brand Value and makes a franchise look desperate and deficient in quality. Haste is the Devil’s Virtue. DCEU has decided to take that lesson to heart. It will still release a shitload of movies, but unlike the MCU, it will be in a mature, adult and organized manner.

Revenge of the Fans’ Revenge Report claims the updated DC movie slot for the upcoming movie projects has been revealed. Author Mario-Francesco Robles claims the slate supposedly includes movies that are already rumored to be in production like Batman, Wonder Woman 2, Aquaman, and Shazam! (Not necessarily in that order) along with other movie projects that the studio denies they exist.

The site also gives us some vital piece of information not found elsewhere on the internet. The Untitled Man of Steel sequel and the Nightwing standalone movie is also being considered for production and will soon start filming.

The movies that were supposedly in-the-works but have now been cancelled or Mothballed for the time being include the following – Suicide Squad 2Batgirl, Lobo, Cyborg, Deadshot, Deathstroke, Black Adam, Booster Gold, Gotham City Sirens, Birds of Prey, Todd Philips’ Joker movie and the Joker/Harley movie.

The list is slightly different from the Movie Slate for the DCEU released by Warner Bros Studios in the Brazil Comic-Con Experience last month. According to it, the future lineup for DCEU movies was – Wonder Woman 2, Aquaman, Flashpoint, Batman, Suicide Squad 2, Justice League Dark, Shazam, Batgirl, Batman and Green Lantern Corps.

Robles claims that WB intended to make large-scale announcements later in January after the release of Justice League. But the movie’s poor performance at the Box Office halted the Studios’ plans to make that a reality. A long in development Man of Steel sequel was to be included in those announcements. But even if that is no more the case, WB will be making headlines soon enough.

The Suicide Squad 2 production is supposedly training the main members again to whip them back into shape. Flashpoint has already supposedly roped in a Director and screenwriters for the movie.

Earlier in September, WB Studios Executives released a statement claiming the Gotham City Sirens movie starring Harley Quinn, Cat Woman, and Poison Ivy is most definitely happening.

Recently, THR published an article on the new DCEU movies and here’s what it said:

“The new line, or possibly label, will allow for the making of movies that will stand apart and separate from those big-budget tentpoles. Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’, for example, is intended to not be connected to the Justice League universe but to be set in a different time period and star another actor.”

Casey Affleck, brother of Batfleck set the internet on fire when he tweeted about possible fall out of Ben Affleck from Batman movie. He said:

“He’s not going to do that movie, I don’t think. Sorry to say. Is that breaking news? Because I was just kind of making that up, I don’t know.”

The director of the solo Batman movie Matt Reeves also said that this will be a clean slate and categorically stated that Batman will be out of shared DCEU. He said:

“Well, I have a vision for a way to do something with that character that feels like it resonates with me personally, and a perspective that can grow out into other things. When Warner Bros. approached me, what they said was ‘look, it’s a standalone, it’s not part of the extended universe.'”

He added:

“In all of my films, what I try to do, in an almost Hitchcockian sense, is use the camera and use the storytelling so that you become that character, and you emphasize with that point of view. There’s a chance to do an almost noir driven, detective version of Batman that is point-of-view driven in a very, very powerful way, that will hopefully connect you to what’s going on inside of his head and inside of his heart.”

Nightwing Director Chris McKay has stated that more ‘concrete’ info on the Batman Spinoff will be coming in February. Robles had also said earlier this week that Ben Affleck’s tryst as the Batman of DCEU is finally over, with Gyllenhaal to take over the reins pretty soon.

Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment revealed that some of the movies will not be connected with DCEU including Batman, Joker origins movie etc. Here’s what she said:

“Our intention, certainly, moving forward is using the continuity to help make sure nothing is diverging in a way that doesn’t make sense, but there’s no insistence upon an overall story line or inter-connectivity in that universe. Moving forward, you’ll see the DC movie universe being a universe, but one that comes from the heart of the filmmaker who’s creating them.”

Geoff Johns, the creative head of DCEU signaled a tonal shift in the future DCEU movies and said:

“Mistakenly in the past, I think the studio has said ‘Oh, DC films are gritty and dark and that’s what makes them different’. That couldn’t be more wrong. It’s a hopeful and optimistic view of life. Even Batman has a glimmer of that in him. If he did’nt think he would make tomorrow better, he’d stop.”

Well, all the very best to DCEU. CHEERS!
