The Vampire Diaries is one of the most riveting teens supernatural drama on TV for a number of years. It’s brought millions of young people into the fold of CW network which has grown tremendously in a very short amount of time. The first season of Vampire Diaries was aired in 2006 which attracted over 3.5 million viewers, the follow-up seasons have averaged 2 million. It is developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Pec based on the best-selling book series of the same name by L.J Smith. The Vampire Diaries has won numerous awards including 4 People’s Choice and many Teen Choice awards.
It is a story set in Mystic falls, a town in Virginia, haunted by supernatural creatures such as Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, and Heretics. In 2015, the lead actress Nina Dobrev (who plays Elena Gilbert/Katherine Pierce) confirmed on her Instagram page that she is leaving the show after the sixth season, but she is all set to reappear in the 8th season (probably the last one) which would only have 16 episodes. Right now, she is resting in a casket as her life is tied to Bonnie Bennett.

A Stake in the heart:
This is the oldest trick in the book which is actually most effective. Although, it’s very difficult to kill an Original with a stake through the heart. The Salvatore brothers tried it on Elijah, but he came back in no time. Klaus permanently killed his own father Mikael using a white oak stake.
Sunlight:
A Vampire is bound by a curse which prohibits him to walk under the sun, but there are rings which allow them to do so. In fact, Alaric’s wife threw her ring and took her own life.
Fireball:
Vampires are really afraid of fire, in fact, Bonnie threatened to kill Damon Salvatore through fire.
Powerful Witch Magic:
Witches are definitely more powerful than vampires, Esther Mikaelson was the powerful witch who was responsible for creating the Original family. She could single-handedly kill vampires if she wants.
Werewolf Bite:
Werewolves are bound by a night curse, at every full moon they turn and become vicious monsters. Tyler Lockwood (a werewolf) had bitten Damon Salvatore, he was saved by Hybrid’s blood but in exchange, Stephan made a deal with Klaus.
Ancient Daggers/Swords:
Rayna Cruz, a Vampire Hunter who was forced to kill her own father by Julian, was enhanced by Shamans who sacrificed their lives to help her avenge her father’s death and kill the entire race of Vampires. She had a Phoenix sword that would mark vampires which would create a mystical connection with her. She lived many lives and killed hundreds of vampires using her sword.
Excessive Vervain:
Vervain is a compound which weakens the powers of Vampires. If it’s used in heavy quantities in a drink or through darts/bullets etc. it can be lethal for vampires.
