Batman is one of DC comics superheroes and one of comic book and movie fan favorites.He has seen man transformations in different films and they were never cheap either. Here is a list of the most expensive Batman films ever made (the top five anyway):
1) The Dark Knight Rises:
Christopher Nolan’s conclusion to the Dark Knight trilogy was the most expensive Bat-movie ever made. With a budget of $262 million, the movie added more locations for filming. Los Angeles, New York, New Jersey, London, and Glasgow can all be seen within the film, and 11,000 extras were employed during the Gotham Rouges football sequence, which was filmed at Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field. Nolan also the more expensive IMAX 70mm film stock to capture various action sequences. The movie was also the most profitable with a box office return of over a billion dollars. It is currently the fifth highest-grossing superhero movie of all time.
2) Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice:
The movie cost $250 million to make and was considered an underperformer at the box office. The studio expected to get a billion dollar return after forking an additional $165 million for marketing alone.Ben Affleck’s Batsuit alone cost $100,000 with additional spare suits being made for spares.
3) The Dark Knight:
The sequel to Batman Begins had a budget of $207million. Nolan introduced the cameras mentioned before-IMAX cameras in this movie and the filming locations extended from Hong Kong to London to Chicago-location shoot in Chicago alone cost $45 million. There were six Batpods used in the film(a single one costing a $100,000) and Christian Bale received a salary of $10 million with another $20 million out of the box office sales.
4) Batman And Robin:
The 1997 Batman And Robin movie cost $188 million to many have called it a waste of money. The movie was declared one of the worst movies ever made. It was, at its time working with a budget bigger than any other Bat-movie. The star Arnold Schwarzenegger was reportedly paid $25 million to play Mr. Freeze.
5) Batman Begins:
Batman Begins was made with a budget of $185 million. As it was the first of the trilogy, Warner Bros. shelled out an additional $100 million which was spent on marketing. Nolan wanted a realistic setting, using Chicago for the fictional Gotham. A ton of money went into constructing a life-size Batcave at England’s Shepperton Studios and other set locations but it was worth the risk-Batman Begins made $374 million ($590 million today) in box office sales.
