5 Things You Need to Know about the Greatest Villain in The Walking Dead

Followers of the walking dead regard the series as having the best written villains. The sheer attention to detail given into writing these characters and adapting them from the comic book series is what makes the show successful. These strong villains reinforces Rick’s idea of “We are the Walking Dead”, in the sense that no matter how many zombies surround them, humans are the biggest threat. Comic book followers have been waiting for Negan to show up in the tv adaptation for a long time, and their demands are finally being met, with the latest episode pointing straight towards a confrontation between Rick and Negan. Let’s go over the 5 things you need to know about Negan.

The Next Big Bad Guy

While The Walking Dead has been consistently producing great antagonists, ever since the Governor died, no one has been able to match up to him. The sheer amount of hate that The Governor got as a villain goes on to show how well the character was written. However, ever since his demise, the next villains have been quite underwhelming. This makes it the perfect time to introduce Negan. And mind you, Negan is not just any simple villain who will die in an episode or two. He is going to be the biggest challenge the group has faced yet. Unlike the Governor, he doesn’t make silly decisions based on emotion and has both Brains and Brawn. Rest assured, Rick Vs Negan is going to be nothing short of EPIC!

 Leader of The Saviours

Negan is the leader of the Saviours. The name of the group is quite ironic given the number of people they actually kill. And it isn’t an ordinary group like Rick’s, it’s a whole goddamn army. The survivors are based in a place called The Sanctuary, which is in the same geographical area as Alexandria and Hilltop. Negan and The Saviours rule by fear, they demand supplies and rations in exchange for killing walkers outside of Hilltop. Rick joins hands with other communities to rise up against Negan in what’s called “The All Out War”.

Bad-ass Intro

Part of the reason why Negan is considered the biggest villain in TWD is his introduction. On his first appearance, he kills a major character in the show (name not disclosed for avoiding spoilers). He takes his weapon of choice, called Lucile, a baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire and bashes the head of this character while others watch on. Now, the show has often decided to distance itself from the comic and make its own choices, thus Negan might end up killing someone else, however, it is quite certain that someone important will die as that is primary to introducing him as the antagonist that he is.

Sheer Ruthlessness

While other bad guys in TWD usually have a dark history that makes you sympathize with them, Negan is just a bad person. He drops the F-bomb as often as he kills people. Unlike other bad guys who condition themselves to think what they are doing is right, Negan knows the severity of his actions and doesn’t give a damn about it. This adds to his ruthlessness and danger. He doesn’t make bad decisions and doesn’t place blind trust in people. In fact, the only thing he does trust is Lucile.

Bad influence

Part of Negan’s character is his charisma. Its his charisma that attracts people towards him and causes for him to come out as a leader in his own group. This Charisma also effects the Grimes family and causes Rick and Carl to question the humanity of their ways. He specially takes an interest in Carl who he wants to make his protégé and sees himself in him. While Carl does want to kill him, he does, to an extent, embrace his dark side.
