5 Much Hyped Films of the Year which Bombed at the Box Office

Every year a lot of films release which has high expectations, but eventually they bomb at the box office. Thus proving that high cost and heavy star-cast is not what audience wants always. There must be a proper storyline too. What’s special this year is that all the hyped films were of newbie’s. They were hyped for several other reasons. Here is a list of five films that bombed at the box office:

Bombay Velvet

Notable the year’s biggest failure and probably of all time too. This movie had everything in it, yet nothing. From Ranbir kapoor to Karan Johar’s debut this Anurag Kashyap magnum opus missed nothing. The moment the news that Karan Johar will be playing the villain opposite Ranbir was leaked moviegoers went crazy. Everyone had huge expectations on it. And was considered to become one of the year’s biggest blockbusters. But its run at the box office was not as smooth as velvet. The trailer itself warned everyone. And lusty kisses between Ranbir and Anushka could not save the sinking ship.

Roy

A movie starring two handsome hunks of Bollywood, Ranbir and Arjun Rampal with the gorgeous Jacqueline Fernandez should be a sure shot crowd puller. And the trailer was promising too with brilliant tracks. The movie did open well but could not carry the run. Due to lack of positive words from the audiences. The movie was boring and had no proper storyline. What seemed to be a thriller from the trailer, turned out to be a poetic drama. The movie thus resulting the distributors’ a heavy loss.

Tevar

Now as I have mentioned this year most of the hyped films starred new comers, so here comes the first of the lot. Tevar starred Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi in the lead. A fresh pair and considerably not that old in bollywood either. It also starred Manoj Bajpayee in a pivotal role. The main promotional aspects were the song “ Superman “ and Arjun-Sonakshi real life love story. It was this year’s first release and all the distributors had high hopes. But the audience was least bothered to watch the same masala film. Even if it had some big names like Salman or Akshay it might have earned well. The lack of star power cost the distributors big time.

Hero

It was Bhai’s production and that was enough for hype. And the lead pairs Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty created a buzz too. Mainly because of their parents star power. News of Govinda’s cameo raised the stakes higher. Everyone thought that it would be a hit. The release was also planned well. But Old is always gold. The original Hero was much liked and appreciated than its boring and clichéd remake. And to add to the woes was Sooraj Pancholi’s scandal with JJiah Khan. Nothing went well for the movie. Though Salman did earn his money back from the rights, but the distributors could hardly raise their bank balance.

Alone

The movie was much talked about for the real life hot couple Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover’s sizzling chemistry. It grabbed many eyeballs with its trailers. The songs were also good. But still the movie ran alone in the theaters. The main reason being its funny horror moments. The movie was supposed to be hot and scary, but it managed only the hotness part. And no moviegoers were intrigued by that. They preferred to leave the hot couple alone. The dream debut of Television superstar Karan thus became a nightmare.
