While we all would like Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio to be the good guy, the reality is – there is more than a 90 percent probability that Mysterio is just a supervillain masquerading as a superhero. And if that is true (which we think it is), it begs the question – Why is Mysterio trying to get to Spider-Man’s good side? With all his awesome powers and the fact that the Avengers are tired and virtually leader-less after fighting Thanos for a second time, the universe is ripe for the taking for Mysterio. And there is almost no one that could stop him. There is one simple answer to why Mysterio is acting like the good guy. He is waiting for the perfect moment to strike. And it is not wealth, fame or power he is looking for. What Mysterio wants is something more primal. He wants to kill Spider-Man. While killing the Wall Crawler might be more difficult than it sounds, if it is anyone who can do it, it could be only Mysterio. Why? Because he has already done it! According to this theory, Mysterio has already killed his universe’s Spider-Man.
There is a reason why Spider-Man: Far From Home is the next movie in line to be released right after Endgame.

The sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming will also introduce a never before seen concept in a superhero shared universe – Far From Home will introduce the idea of the Multi-Verse. Mysterio hails from one such parallel universe and he got into the mainstream Marvel Universe after the fight with Thanos in Avengers: Endgame leading to the eventual Iron Snap tore a hole in the space-time continuum. The Elementals used that tear, in reality, to get into the MCU but so did Mysterio.
And it is clearly evident from the trailers that Mysterio hails from a reality that does not have a Spider-Man? That is very confusing since, in almost every alternate reality and the parallel universe we have encountered in the Marvel comic book Universe, there is someone who is or at least vaguely resembles Spider-Man. That is not a blatant and empty hypothesis that we are saying. Every reality has to have a superhero that has spider-like powers (it’s a mystical thing).
So Mysterio hailing from a universe that does not have a Spider-Man does not make any sense. That means he is lying. Maybe there was a Spider-Man in his universe. It is just that Mysterio was the one who ended his universe’s Spider-Man’s life. And now he is out to get this universe’s very own friendly neighbourhood superhero.
Why we think Mysterio is definitely lying
Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio claims that the MCU Earth is Earth – 616 from the comic books. The universe he belongs to is Earth – 833. Mysterio claims that Earth – 616 and Earth – 833 are very similar in nature. Since Mysterio says he is the foremost authority when it comes to dimensional travel, we have to take his word for it. Earth – 833 and Earth – 616 have “Level 4 Symmetry” and “share identical physical constraints”. And here’s where he made his first mistake.
In the comics, Earth – 833 actually has a Spider-Man. His name is William Braddock and he is British, born and brought up in the United Kingdom where he came to be known as Spider UK. He was soon recruited into the Captain Britain Corps by Captain Britain himself. William Braddock is also a very famous personality in comic book circles. He played a prominent role in the Spider-Verse storyline.
Maybe Mysterio did not get to meet Spider-Man UK because the latter had already been recruited into the Captain Britain Corps by the time Mysterio became a superhero (or super villain). The other side of the coin could be that Mysterio is just a big, fat liar. In an interview, the Director of Spider-Man: Far From Home – Jon Watts, says that Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio draws inspiration from Mysterio’s first ever comic book appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man: #13, where Quentin Beck aka Mysterio fooled the whole world into thinking that he is a superhero where actually he was evil all along, trying to frame Spider-Man for crimes he himself committed wearing a Spider-Man costume. So there is bound to be some hostility between the two.
Then there is also the official Far From Home merchandise collection. The merchandise has openly claimed and described Mysterio as a “sworn enemy of Spider-Man”. Mysterio just met Spider-Man right? Since his Universe does not have a Spider-Man, then how come he is a “sworn enemy” of the wall-crawler already? It just proves that Mysterios’ Universe had a superhero similar to Spider-Man and Mysterio was the one who killed him. If that does not ring any bells, we do not know what will.
Why Spider UK exists in Mysterio’s Universe
What we have mentioned so far regarding William Braddock aka Spider UK is taken straight from the comic book universe. The MCU and the comic book universe could be different. We have seen how the movies and comic books have divulged on several fronts in the past. But the tie-in merchandise for the movie tells an entirely different tale. A Spider-Man figure with a union jack like symbol is a part of the official merchandise for the movie. Moreover, the Spider-Man: Far From Home TV Spot trailers have shown a rather peculiar costume worn by Spider-Man in the movie. While the Red and Black costume can be seen in all its glory, another costume with white and blue highlights could be spotted in some scenes. That costume looks similar to William Braddock aka Spider UK’s official costume from the comic books. If this is true, the trailer did a very good job of hiding the presence of another universe’s Spider-Man within it. Maybe this means that there is a chance we could see Spider UK in action? A flashback maybe!!
Why Mysterio murdering his universe’s Spider-Man makes so much sense
From the facts gathered above, we can clearly state that Mysterio’s claim of his universe being devoid of a Spider-Man is false. Mysterio is most probably lying. The fact that Mysterio and the Elementals got into this universe and Spider UK, Mysterio’s arch-nemesis, could not pursue the villains, means that he may be no more!
If Mysterio is who we think him to be, then Peter Parker is in for a world of pain. Parker is only getting used to his powers. He himself does not know what he is truly capable of. Mysterio, on the other hand, has fought his universe’s Spider-Man all his life. He knows how every nook and cranny of Peter Parker’s true potential. He knows how to defeat and even kill the friendly neighbourhood superhero since he has already beat him in his own universe. That would also explain how Mysterio has been able to fool Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense. Peter Parker, be scared.
