There’s no guarantee of anything in life. Even the ‘life’ has no guarantee. We never know when the Angel of Death will come for us and say “What’s up?”. There are many true stories where people survived the most severe accidents, falls and crashes and walk away with a few injuries and recovered. Our favorite celebrities are no exception to this, and they’ve also survived some of the mightiest blows and told death “Not Today.” Here’s a list of ten celebrities who cheated death:
We all know the Rap God, Eminem, used to be a drug addict and many of his songs also gave details about his experiences with the drugs. In 2002, Eminem had a very close moment with the death after he overdosed on methadone. It’s a drug that heroin users take to get clean on the drug.
In an interview with MTV, he said:
“Had I known it was methadone, I probably wouldn’t have taken it. But as bad as I was back then, I can’t even say 100 percent for sure. My doctor told me the amount of methadone I’d taken was equivalent to shooting up four bags of heroin. Even when they told me I almost died, it didn’t click.”
He’s now clean for many years and is continuing his great rapping.
Kayne West survived a very deadly car-accident which almost took his life. In 2002, Kayne was leaving after a recording session with Beanie Sigel, Peedi Crack, and The Black Eyed Peas. He was driving a rented Lexus car when suddenly someone cut him off and he went straight into traffic hitting another car. He was in a critical condition but he recovered from his injuries.
While filming a scene for “Mockingjay — Part 1”, a faulty fog machine started malfunctioning. Jennifer Lawrence was in an enclosed space and was right in front of everyone on the sets. She disappeared in the fog and it took minutes for the crew to safely draw her out. She was gasping for air and suffered from both vertigo and nausea and production was stopped until she fully recovered. Later in an interview, she said:
“I went deaf in one ear for months, I got all these ear infections from the diving and water and all that stuff, and then a jet from one of the cornucopia scenes punctured my eardrum.”
The rapper Jayceon Taylor aka The Game was once a drug dealer in the streets of Compton, California. In 2001, while handling his illegal business, he was robbed and shot five times by some unexpected visitors but he managed to call the ambulance in that state. His family lost all hope as he slipped into the coma for three days but soon he began to get better and when he fully recovered he made a decision that he’d become a professional rapper. It’s not the only close encounter that he had with death, last year when he was in Miami with his crew mates gunshots rang out.
The action superstar had a close encounter with death while he was doing a stunt for the movie “Armour of God”. He had to jump from the castle to the tree branch and he was quite comfortable in doing such stunt as had done many such stunts before but while performing the stunt he couldn’t manage to hold the branch and fell straight on the ground with his head hitting the floor. His skull not only broke but some pieces of it shot up into his brain and he was taken straight to the hospital and underwent an emergency brain surgery. The actor almost died due to this stunt and he has a plastic plate in his head.
Stallone didn’t have a very close encounter with death but it was quite serious. While filming a fight scene for “The Expendables” with wrestling legend Stone Cold Steve Austin the fight went a bit too realistic and he ended up getting a hairline fracture in his neck. Later he spoke about the fight saying:
“Actually, my fight with Stone Cold Steve Austin was so vicious that I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my neck. I’m not joking. I haven’t told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation afterward. I now have a metal plate in my neck.”
During the days of Aeon Flux, Charlize Theron wanted to her own stunts instead of using body doubles. While performing a back-flip for a movie, it proved quite fatal for the actress as she landed awkwardly on her neck. This herniated her disc which was close to the spinal cord. The filming shut down for eight weeks and doctors were also worried that she might lose some mobility in her body. But she recovered and later decided to let the stunt doubles do their jobs. She spoke about her injury saying:
“I did a back handspring, gymnastics back handspring, had done 18 of them back to back and I just slipped and landed on my neck with my body straight out so with all my weight onto my neck and herniated the disk between my third and fourth vertebrae. I had some nerve damage, it was numb and on the right side of my body.”
It happened in 2000 when the rapper was leaving from his grandma’s house. A group of thugs attacked him and told him to go back to the house and bring the jewelry. He followed their orders but when he got into the backseat of his car, a vehicle came next to his car and someone started firing rounds. The rapper was shot nine times all over his body from chest to his face as his grandma saw the scene from her front yard. But he survived and made a full recovery after five months.
Joaquin Phoenix has many strange tales about his life. Back in 2006, he met with a car accident as his brakes gave out and he crashed into another vehicle and his car overturned on the Laurel Canyon Road. But someone saw the incident and decided to help Joaquin and pulled him out of his car and that someone was none other than filmmaker Werner Herzog. Later Joaquin was reported saying:
“I remember this knocking on the passenger window,” Phoenix said. “There was this German voice saying, ‘Just relax.’ … I said to myself, ‘That’s Werner Herzog!’ There’s something so calming and beautiful about Werner Herzog’s voice.”
After his hit days on the show “90210,” the actor decided to become a racer. In 2002, he was practicing at the Kentucky Speedway when he crashed his car into a terrifying accident. He fractured his spine, broke his nose and had a concussion and it was one of those accidents that nearly took his life. As he later totaled his Porche while he was drunk and had a few minor injuries and his friend who was with him broke his arm. Then crashed a powerboat in Miami while doing a race in which he broke his crew member’s ribs.
