Jon Bernthal Responds To News Of The Punisher In Daredevil

Fans of Marvel’s Netflix shows, now hosted on Disney+, were ecstatic to hear about Jon Bernthal’s return to the role of Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, in the upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again, set to premiere in the spring of 2024. Bernthal had previously played the character in Daredevil’s second season before receiving his own spin-off show. And now the actor has finally reacted to the news of the Punisher in Daredevil.

TV Shows Cancelled Before Their Time

The Punisher is one of the most violent and brutal characters in Marvel’s catalog, known for leaving a trail of carnage and destruction wherever he goes. Despite this, fans have grown to love the anti-hero and his quest for vigilante justice. Prior to March 7, 2023, there had been no news about the character’s future in the MCU or his potential involvement in future projects. However, it was announced on that day that Bernthal would be returning to the role of the Punisher alongside Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Vincent D’onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.

Unfortunately, the return of Bernthal did not mean the same for co-stars Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson, who played Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively. There has been no official announcement regarding their involvement in the new series. Following the announcement, Bernthal took to Instagram to express his excitement about his return to the role of Frank Castle. He posted a captionless photo of a behind-the-scenes still from the final scene of Netflix’s The Punisher, showing Frank Castle in his signature skull outfit, guns blazing, and anger evident in his expression.

Krysten Ritter, who played Jessica Jones in the Marvel Netflix shows, showed her support for Bernthal’s return by commenting “🔥” on his post. Fans were also quick to share their excitement, with one Instagram user saying that they could “already hear the Bernthal Punisher war cry” just from the shared image. Others expressed their delight that all was now right with the world with Bernthal’s return to the role.

For many fans, the dynamic between Daredevil and the Punisher was a highlight of Daredevil Season 2, and they are excited about the prospect of seeing more of the duo. Despite having different moral codes – Matt Murdock being staunchly anti-killing and the Punisher willing to kill anyone he deems deserving – their often-aligned goals forced the two to work together, creating an engaging dynamic for fans.

In terms of other characters from the original show, the potential absence of Karen Page and Foggy Nelson from the new series makes it all the more important for at least one positive relationship to carry over from the previous show to the new one. Overall, the announcement of Jon Bernthal’s return as the Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again has generated much excitement among Marvel Netflix (now Disney+) fans. The series is set to premiere in the spring of 2024 and promises to continue the legacy of one of the most beloved and controversial characters in Marvel’s repertoire.
