Live Action Snow White Casts Gal Gadot As The Evil Queen

Disney has been working on its live-action interpretations for a long time now. There have been various renditions of the animated classics at work for a long time now. The movies have had a somewhat critical and audience response considering the animated films still hold a big place in the hearts of the fans. With the technological advances, it has become quite easier to bring these stories to the live-action as it would have been unbelievable to imagine something like this being done 10 years back. It seems Snow White is going to be amongst the next big live-action adaptations. Apparently, Snow White casts Gal Gadot. Or more accurately, she is in talks to star as the Evil Queen.

Snow White

The first adaptation of the 1812 German fairy tale “Snow White” by the Brothers Grimm was done by Walt Disney with the animated musical film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs that initially hit cinemas on December 21, 1937. There have been various adaptations of the film but this one was definitely the most beloved amongst the bunch based on the fandom it holds. The voices for Snow White and the Evil Queen were done by Adriana Caselotti and Lucille La Verne. In recent times there have been quite a few adaptations of the work but most of them were unique interpretations and steered off the style of Disney.

Universal recently adapted “Snow White” in their live-action projects that comprised of the 2012 film Snow White and the Huntsman and its 2016 sequel The Huntsman: Winter’s War. We got to see a whole new interpretation of the character of the Evil Queen dubbed as “Queen Ravenna” with a very interesting performance by Charlize Theron. The 2012 film starred Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman and Chris Hemsworth also reprised his role in the 2016 sequel. These movies didn’t actually get the proper audience or critical reception for having too much on the plate.

Snow White Casts Gal Gadot As Evil Queen

According to Deadline, Gal Gadot is presently undergoing the final negotiations to portray the Evil Queen in Disney’s new live-action movie interpretation of Snow White. Gadot made a major impact with her portrayal of Wonder Woman in the Warner Bros. DC Extended Universe movies. She will be reprising the role one more time with the third film in the Wonder Woman solo movies. Before this, she was known for her role as Gisele Yashar in the Fast & Furious franchise.

Snow White Casts Gal Gadot

Casting for Snow White was quite long and thorough but studio execs had always had their eyes on her for the role of the Evil Queen. It is no ordinary feat considering the Disney Villain started it all when it comes to the classic antagonistic characters. Gadot was intrigued at the idea of playing a Disney villain considering this is something that has involved the likes of Cate Blanchett, Angelina Jolie, and much more recently Emma Stone with her movie Cruella.

Live-Action Interpretations

This is only one addition to the already massive list of the various live-action interpretations and spinoffs that Disney has been working on. Other projects under development include The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Hunchback, Bambi, Hercules, The Sword in the Stone, Peter Pan & Wendy, etc. While there are also sequels to projects like The Jungle Book, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Cruella at works. Additionally, Aladdin will also get a spinoff with the story focusing on the character of Prince Anders.

Snow White is supposed to start production sometime next year and that could mean that we will get to see the project around 2023. The movie will be directed by Marc Webb, who is known for his works like The Amazing Spider-Man and 500 Days of Summer. It will be produced by Marc Platt who has previously helmed projects like La La Land and The Trial of the Chicago 7. The film will star Rachel Zegler in the titular role of Snow White. She will also be seen in the upcoming projects Shazam! Fury of the Gods and West Side Story.
