Action Movie Sequences of 2018:
We all know that there were a lot of movies in the year 2018 which were quite incredible in their direction, screenplay, story, costumes, and many more. But, there were some movies whose action sequences were simply incredible and were among the best of the year and we are going to talk about those scenes. So, down below are the action scenes which were arguably the highlights of the year:
1. Final Battle – The Meg:
Well, in this one, we can see Jason Statham fighting a giant shark. The scene sounds quite kiddish but on the big screen, it is one of the best action sequences of the year. In the scene, we can see that this creature is going straight to a beach which is full of visitors enjoying their vacations and it’s Statham and his friends who come to their rescue. They start firing torpedos at the Meg and as a final nail in the coffin, to kill the big shark, Statham stabs the shark in the eye with a harpoon.
2. T’Challa vs. Killmonger – Black Panther:
We got three breathtaking Marvel Studios movies in 2018 and it began with a bang with Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. This movie was one of the most remarkable for many obvious reasons but the most important was the story of its villain, Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger. Though he is the ‘bad guy’ of the film, he has the most inspiring and probably the most justifiable motivations for any of the characters in the Marvel Comics Universe.
The fight sequence in the film is not an excuse to show action, but it’s a vital part that helps tell the story, as every action scene should. We really get to know more about both of the characters through this, and especially about Killmonger. Neither any one of them possess any superpowers nor they are wearing any magic armor and when Black Panther ends it with the traditional Marvel CGI spectacle, this scene gets much simpler.
3. Tokyo Battle – Pacific Rim:
Although it is nice to see a simple one-on-one fight scene every now and then, we can’t deny the fact that the massive CGI-filled action sequences are sometimes what our eyes want. We certainly got to see a huge final battle that really destroyed several kaiju (a few giant robots) with most of the Tokyo in Pacific Rim Uprising.
The first film in this series, Pacific Rim was a remarkable grounded story considering its premise, the sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising went to be a giant monster fighting movie and wore it like pride. The end big blow-out fight shows multiple robots which indicate many more cool weapons and monster deaths. By the end of the scene, it seemed like everything which is capable of destroying has exploded in an illustrious manner. This movie can be said fun in its purest form.
4. Race For The Cooper Key – Ready Player One:
Unlike most of the action movies, which saves the best for the climax, Ready Player One chose to go on a different track and decided to engage the viewers by jumping into a huge action part from the very beginning of the film. The very first challenge that Parzival, our hero has to overcome is the part race and part demolition derby, and part the easter egg hunt for the viewers.
As soon as the OASIS was introduced to us, the scene jumps into the race that shows the main character jump behind the wheel of the Back to the Future Delorean and then races opposite to another countless character. This is the most memorable introduction to the digital world. It is a movie you will wish to watch again and again.
5. Captain America To The Rescue – Avengers: Infinity War:
The humungous battle at the end is likely the most remarkable action scene in Avengers: Infinity War. So big and breathtaking that, there are many absolutely awesome moments in it, but it never felt like we’re actually witnessing the full battle. This is the reason behind why the much smaller scene in which Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow come to the rescue is really lit.
This scene is really the climax of a much larger action sequence that begins with Wanda and Vision attack from two of the members of Thanos’ Black Order, but the time when we hear the Avengers Theme, the opening strains, we surely know something magnificent is coming up. Cap suddenly comes out of the shadow to distract, in order to let Falcon fly and kick somebody in its face. Then Black Widow enters and proves why she’s so deadly. This scene is one of the few moments when our heroes get a conclusive win in the movie.
6. Convoy Assault – Deadpool 2:
The highlight of the Deadpool series is this scene wherein an attempt to rescue Russell from the clutches of Cable, an assault on the convoy, was done and it is the best action scene from both movies, as those fighting sequences in close quarters including hand to hand fights and also that gunplay is the added thing which didn’t leave any room for more things. As a result of which, this Deadpool 2 movie was far better than the original one as this is what happens when you have David Leitch as your director.
7. Train Chase – Incredibles 2:
The first installment in this film series was one of the most remarkable superhero films ever made at the time of its release. Though the second installment didn’t perform as per the expectations, it was surely a solid film, both as a family drama from Pixar and an action superhero film. This sequel is the time for Elasticgirl to shine, and undoubtedly she did it solely, which proved how frightening a hero she really is.
The scene begins with the high speed chasing on a specially modified motorcycle and then moving on to, she trying to stop a runaway train. This type of action scene is really rare in animated movies and is as mesmerizing as we witnessed in live-action this year.
8. HALO Jump – Mission: Impossible – Fallout:
We all knew that the name of this action movie is going to make its way into this list because the movie has been delivering great and incredible action sequences for years now and in this particular movie, there were a lot of scenes which dropped our jaws on the floor. But that stunt scene where Tom Cruise jumps off from an airplane from a height to which no star will say yes to but he did that and on top of that, did some impressive and extraordinary action sequences in the air.
9. Spider-Man vs Kingpin – Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse:
The movie Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse has always been reasonable in collecting acclaim from all the corners of the world. This is somehow the seventh starring role for Spider-Man in less than 20 years and also being one of the most unique films in some years.
In the climax scene of the movie, the unique and creative art design matched together with the alternative universe plot was visualized beautifully, which eventually created a fight between Spider-Man and Kingpin where anything can happen anytime, as it usually does. You can never be sure what is going to happen next.
10. Rooftop Chase – Aquaman:
Aquaman is a bliss to the eyes. This movie is one of the best DC superhero movies as it has a lot of impressive visuals and shows the most fantasizing life underwater. Apparently, the best action scene in the film takes place on the surface. The scene shows Black Manta and Atlantean Soldiers battle with Arthur Curry and Mera. It’s not exactly the leads who made this battle sequence an epic one, but the way the battle was carried.
The scene shows that the two lead heroes get apart at the beginning of the battle and instead of simply cutting between the two simultaneous fights, the camera fluently transitions between the two battles. The battle was on the land and we can see Mera running across the rooftops of the houses in the background of the fight between Black Manta and Aquaman. It was really fun to watch this action scene, it was greatly caught in the camera that allowed us to enjoy the mesmerizing Sicilian scenery.
