About the Movie
Torch Light is a recent 2018 Indian drama and thriller film. This Tamil film is written and directed by Abdul Majid, while produced by. The film features Sadha, Riythvika, Varun Udhai, Dinesh Kumar, A. Venkatesh, Sujatha, Sarvana Sakthi in the lead roles.
The movie is based on true incidents and is said to be an untold unseen true story of 1999’s Highways of Tamil Nadu – Andhra. This film is about prostitution and it reveals the pains and tears behind the prostitution. But the film suffered a lot to get certified from the censor board, because of its boldness but finally released on 7th September 2018.
Its initial release date was scheduled to be released in early 2018 but the makers fail to release it because of the censor board. The filmmakers said,
“I have the dubious distinction of releasing a film with 87 cuts. But the audience will still be able to follow the course of events”.
He added that he researched the subject for three months before starting the production,
“Through various contacts, we found and spoke with sex workers in places like Salem, Namakkal, Nellai and nearby places.”
The women opened up once they were convinced of the purpose of our visit. It was moving to hear their stories.” The film got this name from the time when at night the sex workers used torchlight when scouting for customers among truck drivers on the roads of highways.
The most difficult part for the filmmakers was to cast the lead role, as many of them were chosen but they back out of the project. Finally, Sadha was ready to play the lead role in the film, and she did a fantastic job from boldness to acting. Riythvika is also in the lead role, and she has also lived the role and been inspired by Sadha, was spot on with her act. The film got ‘A’ certification from the Censor Board after more than 80 cuts from the film.
