Superhero flicks are amazing, what makes them so are a lot of things but nothing more than their fight scenes. So here we bring you the top 20 fight scenes in Marvel movies ranked from good to great.
20. Spaceship Fight – Guardians of the Galaxy
Guardians of a total fun ride. It was full of laughter and action. The last fight scene of the movie was so awesome, where the guardians tried to take down Ronan in his own ship and an epic one on one battle took place among Gamora and Nebula.
19. Ice Giants meet the Mjolnir – Thor
The intro fight of the First installment of the Thor movies was probably the best fights of the franchise. It saw the might of Thor and his magical hammer and crushed the frost giants.
18. Tony Stark vs Aldrich Killian – Iron Man 3
Marvel studios are known for being true marketing geniuses when it comes to promoting their brand or movies. They are well-researched, methodical and meticulous in their approach. They deliver flawless execution from pre-production to post-production to trailers to final cut of the movie.
But there are occasions when Marvel didn’t live up to its name and almost trolled their most loyal audience who have complete faith in them. They misled the audience through their trailers promising them the moon while the final product was terribly poor.
For instance, in the entire campaign of Iron Man 3, the fans were promised the bid bad Mandarin in the form of Ben Kingsley but guess what he was just a stupid diversion created by Aldrich Killian.
He was an admirer turned hater of Tony Stark who came face to face with the man himself. In the whole movie, Tony Stark spent time thinking whether he is good enough to don the Iron Man mantle again or not, meanwhile both US President and Pepper Potts were in danger and later rescued by Iron Man. The fight sequences were quite impressive than what people give credit to.
17. Ant-Man vs Falcon
In 2015, we saw Ant-Man as a reluctant “average joe” Scott Lang who puts on a powerful suit that transformed him into a superhero. It was a huge gamble taken by Marvel at the time as other properties like Thor, Captain America, Iron Man were quite successful, but it paid off.
Unlike other Marvel superheroes, Ant-Man integrated a more comical tone to the superhero’s story, whether it was the situations that Lang landed himself in or his close-knit group of friends that presented the audiences with scenes that were more reminiscent of comic-book sketches.
The fight between the two newest Avengers – Ant-Man and Falcon was extremely satisfying and fulfilling. When Scott Lang aka Ant-Man tried to break into Avengers headquarters, he ran into Falcon and they fought rough and hard but the scene is soothing to eyes for some reason. It was Lang’s awkwardness meeting military training of Falcon.
16. The South Korea Chase Sequence – Black Panther
Black Panther was a cultural phenomenon that was amazing on so many levels! The only aspect of the film that wasn’t 10/10 was the CGI, and that caused the final fight of the film to be “not so epic.” Instead, the best fight sequence of the movie was certainly in South Korea when T’Challa was after Ulysses Klaue.
That was the scene which showed us the true capability of Black Panther. The way that Black Panther used his suit and abilities in the scene was just perfect, and on top of that, the involvement of Shuri, Okoye and Nakia made the scene totally bad-ass!
15. Iron Man vs Cap vs Thor
The Avengers was the first big Marvel superhero ensemble movie in 2012 and it was a monstrous hit. It earned over $1 Billion worldwide in box-office collections and is among the top 5 highest earning superhero movies of all time.
Well, before the Earth’s mightiest heroes band together against Loki and his Chitauri army, the Iron Man, Captain America and God of Thunder decided to fight amongst themselves as they were strangers then. You would think Thor is invincible, but Stark’s technology and Cap’s Shield proved to be worthy opponents. Iron Man attacked him relentlessly while Cap’s Shield could deflect the rays of lightning, hence clearing the forest.
14. The Lift Scene – Captain America: Winter Soldier
After the successful launch of Captain America franchise, its sequel took it to the next level. It was more like an espionage thriller than a run-of-the-mill superhero outing. SHIELD was penetrated by HYDRA, and the Winter soldier was menacing as a villain.
He was believed to be dead but it was revealed that he got resurrected years ago as Winter Soldier. The movie was more of spy drama and superhero stuff rolled into one.
The famous “lift scene” had Steve Rogers inside the lift with a bunch of HYDRA operatives and he was forced to fight them all. Guess what, he single-handedly took them down and got off the elevator like a boss. He destroyed almost a dozen guys without getting a scratch. It demonstrated an amazing strength of Captain America and Russo brothers style of movie-making.
13. Dr. Strange vs Lucian
The Benedict Cumberbatch starrer Doctor Strange movie was extremely well-received among comic-book fans, although it wasn’t a smashing hit that everyone was expecting. Nevertheless, the movie got the nomination for Oscars and other prestigious awards in the category of visual effects and production design.
It’s an origin story of a world-famous surgeon turned master sorcerer whose life changed when he found the ancient one after he crippled his hands in an accident. Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange (created by Ditko and Lee in 1963) is searching for meaning in his life, exploring different possibilities that could determine his fate.
He spent years trying to find a miracle treatment that would fix his predicament, eventually wound up at Tibet. Consequently, he shunned conventional medicine and embraced sorcery and mysticism, joined the order.
Mads Mikkelson played Kaecilius who is the antagonist in the movie. He was taught by the Ancient One but turned rogue when he came to know the dark secret about her. He is now taking orders from the Dormammu. He sent his merciless crony to eliminate Strange but he could not finish the task. It took place in the hospital where Strange is moving around noisily, not visible to other mortals except Rachel McAdams’ character.
12. Guardians vs. Ego – Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
The first Guardians of the Galaxy was certainly better than Vol. 2 in all aspects, except the villain. Ego wasn’t the cliché Super villain that we usually see. He was only of the benevolent characters of Marvel and that is what made the fight between Ego & the Guardians even more epic!
The members of the team were actually fighting an entire planet this time. While being visually amazing, the battle was extremely funny at the same time & the addition of Ayesha and her space drones was just cherry on top of a cake!
11. Hulk vs The Hulkbuster – Age of Ultron
This was the fight fans were always waiting for. They got this epic battle in the second Avengers movie and the fact that The Hulkbuster was so much bigger than the green rage monster was actually the highlight and the only reason of Ironman being able to stand his own in the fight.
10. Wolverine vs X-24 in Logan
The farewell movie, Logan, of Hugh Jackman from the role of Wolverine was filled with many fight scenes. But the fight between X-24 and Wolverine at the end of the movie was one of the most epic fight scenes from the X-Men franchise.
9. Iron Man cave escape – Iron Man (2008)
Fans got really excited when they got to see Tony Stark Suit up as Ironman and that too in a cave. While his first suit might look like trash in front of his other suits but it still did the job for him and delivered a great action scene. He bludgeoned a bunch of terrorists and made an amazing exit.
8. Opening Fight – Deadpool
The Expressway scene in the 2015 R-rated flick also acts as the introduction scene, both to the film as well as to the character. With over the top violence, complemented with the character’s humor and 4thwall breaking moments, the scene is a delight, as it not only stays true to the character but also sets the temperature of the film.
7. The Climax – Deadpool 2
We have to admit that Deadpool 2 was full of crisp and amazing action sequences so picking one out of all is a little tougher than you think. But all things considered, we have to give it to the final fight of the film where we saw the initial X-Force including Deadpool, Domino, Cable, Colossus & Negasonic taking on Fire Fist, Juggernaut and the hospital goons.
The sequence was even better in the extended cut of the film. There was a lot going on in the final climax as Deadpool, Domino & Cable were piling bodies while the big CGI fight involving Colossus and the Juggernaut was the highlight. The best moment of all may have actually been the final moment where Dopinder gets his moment of redemption!
6. The Train Scene – Spider-Man 2
The train fight between Doctor Octopus and Spider-Man sure is one of the most thrilling scenes Marvel ever has had offered. The scene truly shows what Spider-Man’s character is like. Be it his relentless effort to save the citizens after Doc Ock rips out the brakes out of the speeding train even when that almost requires him to sacrifice himself, or be it the love of the citizens for him after finding out that he’s just a boy, all in all, the scene is a treat to the fans.
5. Team Thor vs. Hela’s Army – Thor: Ragnarok
You could say that Thor vs. Hulk was great, but it was certainly not the best. The best moment of the movie came at the very end Thor became the God of Thunder, and made a thunderous entrance fighting the army of dead resurrected by Hela.
The scene was just magical, and Hulk’s fight with Fenris moving side by side added more to the scene. Every moment within the sequence was just amazing as Thor wasn’t fighting alone. We had Valkyrie kicking ass, Loki bringing in the Gladiators of Sakaar. Even Skurge gave us his best moment from the film sacrificing himself for the other Asgardians.
4. Captain America v Winter Soldier
The scene where the Winter Soldier attacks Black Widow, Falcon, and Captain America is even better than the climatic fight. The fight is close ranged and intimate, making it all the more fun, the cherry on top was Cap, in the end finding out that the Winter Soldier is no one other than his childhood friend, Bucky.
3. Avengers vs Chitauri
The battle of New York is probably one of the best battle sequences in the entire MCU history. It was the first time that our favorite superheroes came in together as a team to fight the alien invasion of the Chuitari. The camaraderie is phenomenal and so is the action-packed sequence taking place all over Manhattan.
2. The Titan Battle – Avengers: Infinity War
Infinity War was massively action packed but you have to admit that everything that happened on Titan completely overshadowed the battle of Wakanda. The movie should have spent more time on the Wakandan war, but it actually gave more time to Titan which showed us long drawn visually remarkable brawls between Doctor Strange & Thanos and Iron Man & Thanos.
The Guardians & Iron Spider did give us some great supporting scenes, but the best of all was certainly Iron Man vs. Thanos. That sequence made us feel that Marvel has emptied their bag of tricks involving Iron Man, as it was something that we had never seen before!
1. Airport Fight – Civil War
It was the most anticipated superhero movie of 2016, and it delivered big pay-off for the Marvel fans. It opened to the entire world and raked in massive box office collections surpassing Billion dollar mark. The reviews were largely positive, rotten tomatoes rating stands at 90%. But, it couldn’t break the opening weekend record of Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191 million), let alone The Avengers ($207 million).
But this fight scene is undoubtedly ‘THE BEST’ that Marvel has come up with yet. Be it the quirky dialogues, or using each superhero’s powers to the best or be it the introduction of Spider-Man, or be it the dream come true moment, where heroes fight heroes, this fight was nothing less than perfect.
