The Dark Knight of Gotham Just Walked Into Captain America’s Footsteps

Marvel and DC are arch-rivals when it comes to comics, TV shows, and movies. But that doesn’t stop them from borrowing each others’ playbook from time to time. Marvel has incorporated many elements originally conceived by DC comics but this time DC is heavily inspired by the plot of Marvel comics with respect to a major superhero.

Recently, Captain America was suggested to be a mole or traitor in the new Marvel comics titled Captain America: Steve Rogers # 1 created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby who brought the character to life 75 years ago. He is shown to be a sleeping member of Hydra. He has almost become an evil deity and an epitome of neo-fascist ideals. He holds the Cosmic Cube which is one of the most powerful objects in the Marvel universe at par with Infinity Gauntlet. With such an enormous power at his disposal, there is nothing much that Avengers can do except wishing that he doesn’t get the last fragment (which is with Sam Wilson).

Similarly, DC comics has pulled off Marvel stunt and apparently Dark Knight of Gotham has become “The Red Death”. He has stolen the powers of his fellow Justice League members. He took away the speed-force from Flash and is now the fastest man alive. All this action takes place in Dark DC Multiverse on Earth-52. He has destroyed the entire rogue’s gallery and is now in possession of Captain Cold’s visor & Cold gun, flamethrower, mirror gun and Weather Wizard’s staff. But all is not lost as Barry Allen’s psyche is alive and is more than a voice in Batman’s head. Hopefully, it is strong enough to survive dark DC multiverse and help his fellow Justice League partner to again become the good guy who fights crime.

It’s not the first time, as there have been attempts to try out different things to bring new readership for DC comics. Recently, they decided to create a major crossover between Batman and Flash to investigate the popular Watchmen mystery in a comic-book titled ‘The Button’. Here’s the official synopsis of the story:

“Two greatest detectives in the DC Universe unite to unravel the mystery behind a certain blood-stained smiley face button stuck in the Batcave wall. However, what begins as a simple investigation soon turns deadly when the secrets of the button prove irresistible to an unwelcome third party — and it’s not who anyone suspects! This is a mystery woven throughout time, and the countdown starts here!”

DiDo, a DC Publisher said “When we went out and we set up Rebirth, we set up a two-year story. A lot of the questions that are out there will be answered during that two-year plan. The goal is not to answer every question in the beginning, but to roll things out and continue to excite people all the way through. You’ll see a lot of twists and turns coming out over the next year or so that will get you to, hopefully, where you want to be.”

Williamson said “When people read the whole event — it’s hard to talk about this because of spoilers — they’re going to see it all adds up, and it definitely gives you a big piece of what we’re doing next year, moving forward with Rebirth.dc

Geoff Johns, the longtime DC comics writer turned a chief creative officer is a man of bold change who has conceived and is now steering DC Rebirth initiative.

He said it in an interview about DC Rebirth:

“If you look at the new Star Wars — it’s kind of a rebirth, right? It goes back to the classic tropes of Star Wars, but it introduces new characters. New threats. It has the spirit of Star Wars, it feels like a Star Wars movie. Probably the first Star Wars movie that’s felt like a Star Wars movie in a long, long time. That’s a perfect example of what I think “Rebirth” is — a celebration, but it doesn’t mean we’re just going backward. It’s an echo of the past, but looking to the future. That’s what I want to do with this.”

Well, let’s see the play of DC comics to compete against the Marvel.
