The Deadpool Director Landed On A Giant Sci-fi Gig And It’s Wonderful

The Terminator franchise is one of the most adrenaline-filled, edgy, and racy of all time. Terminator 1 marked the birth of a major sci-fi franchise which shattered box-office records in the sci-fi genre. Terminator 2 topped the first movie and catapulted Arnold Schwarzenegger to global fame. He was always a great action star but Terminator 2: Judgment Day turned him into God. He will be returning in T6 and would be de-aged using CGI and visual effects.

Well, the sixth installment of the popular sci-fi franchise has been officially greenlit and it will be produced by legendary James Cameron and directed by none other than Tim Miller.  He was the man behind the most successful Ryan Reynolds film of his entire career Deadpool, the global box office collections of the movie surpassed $800 million while the cost of production was less than $60 million. It holds the record for highest ever R-rated opening weekends, President’s day weekends and outperformed every other superhero movie which is part of X-men franchise.

He assured the fans of a power-packed sequel to Deadpool which would be entertaining as hell. He confirmed that there will not be a direct crossover of Deadpool and X-Men movies (by Bryan Singer) anytime soon, as the tone of both the franchises are poles apart. He was visibly excited and was really looking forward to directing Deadpool 2, but sadly he decided to opt out of the project due to major “creative differences” with the actor Ryan Reynolds. According to TheWrap, Ryan Reynolds and Tim Miller could’nt see eye to eye over the casting of Cable, but Fox downplayed the concerns. Tim Miller wanted Kyle Chandler as the Cable whereas Ryan Reynolds was in favor of a Hollywood heavyweight like Liam Neeson, ultimately Josh Brolin (who is also Thanos in MCU) was selected to play Cable.

The Terminator franchise has not been doing well since T2 really, and this time the efforts will be made to restore the original glory. The details of the movie are yet to come out but it will explore the genesis of Arnold traditional T-800 character and the human prototype that T-800 is based on. Cameron had this to say:

“You got to ask yourself, ‘Why did they make these characters look and sound like Arnold?’ There has to be a reason. So yeah, it has flashed through my mind that there has to have been a prototype. There has to have been a guy who’s DNA was harvested from, that they grew the organic outer layer that they grew the Terminator from…and that presumably was a real person at some point.”

Recently, James Cameron arranged a meeting with Skynet one more time on August 25, 2017, which is 20 years later, but this time it will feel more real. The movie has been re-mastered in 4K 3D format. It originally spent $107 million on those ground-breaking visual effects, but it was a box-office success as it earned over $500 million in worldwide box-office sales, and made a killing on a home-video circuit in the US.

Distrib Films Youtube channel shared a trailer of T2 3D in which James Cameron is sharing his experiences with his fans. He said:

“The images feel more real in 3D. There’s lucidity to it, you really feel like you’re there.”

He added that it will allow the younger audience to watch this outstanding movie in the best quality available. It will be screened exclusively on AMC theatres. The AMC executive Elizabeth Frank said:

“Terminator 2 has stood the test of time and is hailed by critics as one of the best sci-fi movies in film history. Now, the fully restored version of the classic will take the already extraordinary special effects to a new level.”

Frank added “AMC is privileged to bring the classic movie back to the big screens as well as introduce it to a new generation of fans”.

Francois Scippa-Kohn of Distrib Films, US said:

“The 4K 3D restoration and conversion of the film looks stunning, and after 26 years the film hasn’t aged one little bit.”
