The age old tale of Marvel v DC seems to get more steam with each year passing. This is in part, due to the extensive growth of Marvel Cinematic Universe and DC Extended Universe. Both studios have produced movies based off Marvel comic and DC comic. A territory known for their legions of dedicated, hardcore fans. The debate of which universe has better heroes has been one evey fan has gone through one way or the other, especially when it comes to female superheroes.
Marvel leads in the movie race with thirteen movies under its belt. Out of all those thirteen, there have been a few impressive female characters. Characters like Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) have shown strong, intelligent women who were vital in moving every heroe’s story forward.
But unfortunately, they cannot be classified as superheroes (although in real life they would).
Marvel has only introduced two superheroes into the MCU- Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).
Both characters are part of the Avengers franchise, but both have not had the opportunity to stand out among their team members. The lack of female superheroes may also be due to Fox owning the X-Men franchise. The X-Men has been known to have a couple of bad ass female superheroes no man should ever get angry.
DC, on the other hand has had only three movies released under its belt. Out of which the Wonder Woman has already starred in one. Wonder Woman is part of DC’s Trinity which also includes Batman and Superman. Out of the critically panned BvS, Wonder Woman was the saving grace for many critics and fans.
She has also beat Marvel to the punch by having a standalone Wonder Woman movie already be made.
Suicide Squad also featured memorable supervillains turned superheroes Harley Quinn, Katana and Enchantress.Marvel announced that it would be making a Captain Marvel movie but since D.C already has a Wonder Woman movie set for release next year, it seems like DCEU is the clear leader when it comes to having a better female superhero.
