10 Marvel Characters Who Have Broken Captain America’s Shield

Captain America is one of the most recognizable superheroes and a US soldier, who is a symbol of justice and patriotism. His interest and his objective to save the world gave him incredible superhuman powers and abilities after he was injected and enhanced with Super-Soldier Serum. Besides his superpowers and the capacity to beat the shit of his rogues, his metal shield is what fascinates us the most. Made from vibranium, steel, and adamantium alloy, the shield protects its wielder from all kinds of kinetic energies and is one of the most powerful weapons in the Marvel but here are ten supervillains who have broken the Captain America’s shield.

Sentinels:

In Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of the Future Past, we saw how US government had dispatched the Sentinels prepared by a mad scientist (Peter Dinklage aka Tyrion Lannister) to destroy mutants for good. Wolverine had to come back to change the timeline. In comics, all mutants were destroyed and some of them were friends and allies of Captain America. He decided to avenge his comrades and took the fight to them. Well, he stood no chance and got his ass handed to him.

Loki:

He is the brother of Thor, the God of mischief has once destroyed Cap’s shield but he didn’t do it in comics, instead, he did it in a TV series. In Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes season 1 finale, Avengers decided to attack Asgard as all eight realms were lost, Loki used his magic, enhanced it with the power of Odin force and shattered Cap’s shield. But later on, it was reconstructed using Wakandan vibranium machine.

Gregory Stark:

In 2000, Marvel comics launched Ultimate Marvel Universe wherein they re-imagined different versions of characters, the writers took the liberty of introducing Gregory Stark who was the older brother of Tony Stark and member of new Project Avengers. Well, in this universe Cap’s shield is made of adamantium, not vibranium, Gregory Stark orchestrated civil war where Cap’s shield was broken but in the end, the Avengers got together against him.

Hyperion:

King Hyperion or God Emperor ruled the Earth in an alternate timeline where populace killed itself through a nuclear holocaust. Hyperion sought to conquer all Earths in a multiverse but met with resistance from Cap, well Steve Rogers failed in his mission and his Shield was cracked as a result.

Ultron

Ultron and his Sentinels have always been a thorn in the flesh of Avengers and it is clearly shown in the Avengers: Age of Ultron. The whole New York city was just turned into a graveyard with most superheroes being killed and hidden around the broken places, while Captain America is seen sitting near his broken shield with head down in the Age of Ultron limited series. Who could have broken this indestructible shield? Obviously, Ultron and his Sentients.

Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom is one of the most powerful super villains of the Marvel force. And at one instance in Secret Wars, he just dreaded a bunch of superheroes, including Captain America. It all started when Beyonder, one of the strongest cosmic beings, transported superheroes and super villains from earth to a planet called Battleworld. Doctor Doom possesses the powers of Beyonder and turns into a Frankenstein monster, reducing the super villains and heroes to ashes. And the last picture shows Captain America’s broken shield.

Thanos

Thanos is the strongest supervillain in the Marvel universe who is also known for his obsession with death. He is an unstoppable force, which is clearly depicted in the 1991 miniseries The Infinity Gauntlet, where Thanos gets hold of all the infinity gems and becomes omnipotent. During a face-off with Captain America, it took Thanos a slow blow to crumble America’s shield into pieces.

He raises the shield in front of him and breaks the shield from his hands.

Molecule Man:

He is literally a living bomb that would destroy the entire universe, as he has the powers to manipulate all matter engineered by the Beyonders. He has the power to control entire multi-verse as everything has molecules. He battled Avengers in All the Ways of Power Story arc and he easily smashed Cap’s shield to smithereens. He can also destroy Iron Man armor, Silver surfer board, and Thor’s hammer.
