1. Will Turner from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
Before Orlando Bloom was set to play the role of Will Turner in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)’, there were several actors who were considered for the audition including Christian Bale. Other actors who were on the list were, Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, and Tobey Macguire.
2. Robin Hood from Robin Hood (2010)
Before Russel Crowe grabbed an arrow and a bow for the role of Robin Hood, Ridley Scott wanted Bale to play the character.
“Nothing is signed for Bale, but director Ridley Scott is exceedingly keen to cast him. Costume fittings begin next week, so he’ll be either in or out by then. Vanessa Redgrave and William Hurt are also in discussions about being in the film, which is called Nottingham,” said Scott while he was seeking out for the role of Robin Hood.
3. Patrick Bateman from The Rules of Attraction (2002)
Christian Bale turned down the role of Patrick in The Rules of Attraction (2002), the same character that he played in American Psycho. Ultimately, Casper Van Dien was finally set to play the character in the movie.
4. George Bush from ‘W’(2008)
Playing the role of the former American president, George W Bush was a little unbearable when Bale set down for makeup.
“When director Oliver Stone first set out to make his biopic “W.,” he cast none other than Christian Bale in the role. Yep, you read that right,” said director Oliver Stone.
“The English-born actor spent months learning the mannerisms and vocal tics of the American president, but ultimately backed out of the film at the last-minute after he reportedly felt that the hair and makeup tests simply weren’t working,” he added.
5. Jack Dawson from Titanic
Just imagine how things would be so different if Christian Bale had taken the role of Jack Dawson. Until now, and even you will agree with me, that nobody could have nailed the character better than Leonardo DiCaprio.
“DiCaprio. The name burned Christian like a branding iron,” one of Bale’s co-worker said.
“Christian too had gone up for the part of Jack Dawson in Titanic but was told that James Cameron didn’t want two British lead actors playing the two leads who were both supposed to be American,” he added.
6. Steve Jobs from Steve Jobs (2015)
Christian Bale was all set to play the role of Steve Jobs in the film of the same name but decided to withdraw. The script writer Aaron Sorkin said that “We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that’s Christian Bale. He didn’t have to audition. Well, there was a meeting.”
7. James Bond from Casino Royale (2006)
James Bond is one of the iconic roles that most of the actors wanted to play, but Daniel Craig was the one who undoubtedly nailed the role. After appearing in American Psycho, he told producer Barbara Broccoli that he already played the role of a serial killer.
8. Robin from Batman Forever(1995)
As per the rumors that made rounds on the internet, Christian Bale was supposed to play the sidekick of Batman, Robin in Batman Forever(1995). But denied auditioning for the same.
“I love the crap that is on the internet and on TV – everywhere – it’s not just on the Net,” he said in an interview.
“Most of the time I never bother trying to put anything right because I’m an actor, and the whole point is it doesn’t matter what’s the truth,” he added.
9. Arnie Grape from What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
Christian Bale has a rivalry with Leonardo DiCaprio as he took most of the roles that Bale wanted to play initially. And this time also, DiCaprio stole the role.
“Over the years, Christian had lost This Boy’s Life and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape to DiCaprio. Christian had read for the part of Mercutio in Romeo & Juliet but was told that they had decided to cast an African-American in the part instead,” said one of the co-workers in an interview.
10. Jake Hoyt from Training Day (2001)
