14 Reasons Why You Should Be Excited For Thor Ragnarok

Thor Ragnarok is the upcoming Marvel movie and it is inspired by Jack Kirby’s Ragnarok comic wherein Asgard is burned to the ground and rebuilt from the ashes. Thor will confront an empowered Loki who he has gained absolute control of Asgard while Thor was busy fighting Ultron on Earth and forces of Hela who command legions of the dead. He must defeat them to pave the way for a rebirth of Asgardian society. One fan aptly described the movie as “The way Winter Soldier was for Captain America, Ragnarok is for Thor.”

Here’re 14 reasons why you should be super excited about the movie:

It will directly lead into Avengers Infinity War:

The latest trailer for the movie shown at D23 may have answered some of the major questions we all have. According to reports, it begins with Guardians of the Galaxy finding Thor floating in space unconscious without a space suit, Thor asks them about their identities.

We know that Thor and Gladiator Hulk will battle it out in the arena, but they would manage to escape and go on a “cosmic road-trip”. This suggests that their plans to save Asgard from Hela’s forces may have gone horribly wrong.

Planet Hulk

It’s been confirmed that we will see a version of Planet Hulk story-line within the Thor movie. In comics, the story revolved around how the Hulk crash-lands to a different planet ruled by a tyrant who forces him to fight against powerful creatures of the realm. He will be involved in gladiatorial games organized by the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) wearing his one-shoulder armor just like in the comics.

At Disney D-23 Annual Expo, a new poster for Thor Ragnarok was unveiled which offers a better look at gladiator armor and the epic battle between Thor and his fellow Avenger “The Hulk”. Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the world after being banished by King Odin (or Loki) and will be forced to fight in an arena, wherein he will face the green beast (King of the arena).

Hela is Insanely Powerful:

Recently, the international poster of Thor Ragnarok showed Hela towering over everyone as if she is this gigantic threat looming over Thor’s head, so much so that he needs a bad-ass team of warriors to take her on. It was a Japanese poster that used bright and dynamic color scheme which is in stark contrast with darker posters for the Marvel movies that we are used to seeing. The fact that mighty Thor needs an assembly of cosmic heroes including Valkyrie, Loki, Hulk etc. to take on Hela shows how powerful she really is.

Dr. Strange Appearance is confirmed:

Recently, a picture was released which pointed to the possibility of Dr. Strange showing up in the movie. It seems Thor will travel to Sanctum Santorum in Greenwich village, New York to learn more about Infinity stones. It is also possible that he needs to know how to travel through realms something which Dr. Strange has mastered through magic and mystical arts. Further, in the Japanese trailer of Thor Ragnarok, we see Dr. Strange and he is issuing a dire warning to Thor. He said: “Thor, I sense a great change in your future. Destiny has dire plans for you, my friend, to which Thor responds, I have dire plans for destiny.”

Terrifying Monster:

The new trailer and images of the movie showed a terrifying monster known as Surtur. He is a classic demonic figure of Thor comics who rules Fire realm. He is a giant fiery monster who can do trans-dimensional teleportation, magic and molecular manipulation. He also features in the Norse poem which tells the tale of Ragnarok. He is a recurring villain in Thor comics, once he destroyed the Realm Eternal. He possess a mystic blade that can cleave through dimensional barriers, withstand Thor’s hammer Mjolnir making him the kind of enemy that Thor has never faced before.

Lady Sif is returning:

Fans are wondering where is Lady Sif amidst all this chaos. Recently, in the promo of Talking With Chris Hardwick, a very special guest Jaimie Alexander is coming from Thor: Ragnarok. This made fans notice, some of them got excited but this is no official confirmation. Still, let’s just hope we see her beautiful face in the movie.

Hulk Smash!

Hulk is getting a lot of focus for this movie along with Thor. He will get to kick a lot of ass in the movie. He is the champion at the Planet Sakaar where he will fight Thor himself and brutally smash his mighty ass. Not only that, we saw him take on the Fenris Wolf which is the size of a bus. And we saw him going full fists up against the God of Fire, Surtur.

Loki’s Treachery:

In the latest trailer, Loki is handing over Tesseract to the Mad Titan and turns on his brother again. Also, when Guardians are carrying Thor, they see a planet (Asgard) devastated in a huge battle which means Loki has been secretly working for Thanos all along. He joins Thor’s crew to defeat Hela only because Thanos asked him to do that. He is very likely playing both sides.

A Hammerless Thor

In one of the trailer’s most notable moments, Hela shatters Thor’s hammer, Mjolner, as though it’s a beer glass. Thor is then forced to go Mjolner-less for the rest of the film. We know he finds a similarly-shaped cosmic weapon at a certain point, but it’s nowhere near as powerful as Mjolner. But still, we see him living up to his name and literally becoming the God of Thunder at the end of the second trailer which is really amazing.

New Supporting Characters

The movie is bringing in a lot of big characters from the comics apart from the Superheroes and the main Villain. We are going to see Jeff Goldblum as the Grand Master, who is an elder of the Universe and the brother of the Collector. Along with him, we will see Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie who is going to team up with Thor in the movie and Karl Urban is going to play Skurge, who is another villain in the movie and will team up with Hela.

Heimdall and the Infinity Stone

We have got to see very less of Heimdall in the two trailers that were released and it was mainly because he seems to be hiding something big under his belt. We saw him hiding out in a jungle in order to survive. Black Panther has been confirmed to not show an Infinity Stone and the only movie left before Infinity War is Ragnarok. So, we might get to see the introduction of the 6th Infinity Stone in this movie and Heimdall is probably the one who possesses it.

A Buddy Movie

Thor: Ragnarok-Thor-vs-Hulk

Director Taika Waititi has described Thor: Ragnarok as a buddy road movie between Thor and Hulk.  All we’ve seen from the trailer is their Gladiator match, which probably means that most of Hulk’s screen time in the film hasn’t yet been accounted for. Hulk and Thor are likely to make amends after their bout, and team up for a journey through the Nine Realms in order to find what they need to bring down Hela. We see them team up with Loki and Valkyrie in order to take down Hela and this is the most exciting part as the two strongest Avengers are going to be side-by-side for this movie.

A New Kind of Thor Movie

Everything about the movie feels so different and really nice. The trailer really set the tone for a fast-paced, energetic movie that knows how to have fun with itself. The rockin’ soundtrack is the last thing you’d expect to hear in Thor movie trailer. The best Marvel movies are those that don’t stick to the super-hero formula and this feels one of those. The trailer just oozes with fun and it seems that it may be the best Comic-book movie of this year.

More action, Less run-time:

The movie will be more action-packed and it will also be the shortest ever Marvel movie. In continuing with the traditions of Thor movies, Kenneth Branagh’s Thor was 114 minutes, Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World was 112 minutes long but Thor Ragnarok will just have 100 minutes runtime. Taika Waititi said to Collider:

“The cut right now, I reckon it’s about 100 minutes. It’s not gonna be a very, very long film. I think that stories are better when you leave them wanting more, and this film moves at a clip, it’s got stuff happening all the time. I think people are still gonna feel exhausted by the end; they’ve been on this big journey and stuff, so I don’t think we need the film to be three hours”.
