Deadpool 2 is probably the most anticipated Superhero movie coming out in 2018 after Avengers Infinity War. Deadpool was one of the best superhero movies of 2016 and was the highest grossing R-Rated movie ever made. The movie has aroused huge expectations among X-Men fans and rightly so as the first movie’s global box office collections crossed $800 million marks while the cost of production was less than $60 million, making it the most successful superhero movie in the entire X-men franchise.
It was important for Deadpool to break the fourth wall and we all are glad that he did that right from the beginning of the movie. There is going to be even more of this and more action in the sequel.
The entire team of the original movie is coming back, from Blind-Al to Vanessa, the driver, Colossus, and Negasonic Teenage Warhead will be reprising their roles. Cable is in the mix, he is the time-traveling son of Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor (a clone of Jean Grey) who was trained to be the warrior in the future. His girlfriend Domino played by Zazie Beetz will also make an appearance.
Moreover, Domino (mercenary turned X-Men) has been confirmed by the makers. Both of these will play an anti-hero in order to balance the scales to Deadpool’s “happy go murdery” persona. It’s not clear yet if other mutants will crossover, but there is strong speculation that there will be a new kind of mutant, never before seen in the comics or movies.
But the making of this action has led to a very tragic accident on the set of the movie. A very sorrowful event occurred as a stuntman was reportedly killed when a motorcycle stunt went horribly wrong. The Report has come in from ‘TMZ’ about the accident that happened while filming the movie.
According to the reports the rider, who was female, went airborne in Vancouver Monday morning during filming for the movie.
Her bike crashed through the glass of a ground-floor studio inside Shaw Tower near Jack Poole Plaza. Witnesses say she never applied the brakes. Ryan Reynolds has also tweeted about the tragedy and is pretty saddened about it, well we all are.
A Spokesperson from 20th Century Fox has also weighed in on this. Here is what he said about the incident.
“We are deeply saddened by the accident that occurred on the set of Deadpool 2 this morning. Our hearts and prayers are with the family, friends and colleagues of our crew member during this difficult time.”
Josh Brolin who is playing Cable in the movie also put his thoughts on social media about the incident:
But now more details are coming and they are horrifying. Deadline.com is reporting that Joi Harris death was the result of a low-speed freak accident. According to investigations day after the accident (15th Aug, 2017), Harris had done that stunt five times already and on sixth time he crashed and suffered critical injuries. This is what the report said:
“A temporary worksite had been setup to record a film scene for a movie production. The site had been cordoned off from general public and traffic by the Vancouver Police Department. The worker had been rehearsing a stunt scene that involved driving a motorcycle, Dictate 939 Hyperstrada, out of the open doors of a building, across a concrete pad and down a ramp that had been built over three stairs and coming to a stop on the stair landing.”
The report talked about what he did in the sixth time and read as follows:
“During the first shooting of the scene the stunt driver continued driving beyond the planned stopping spot on the stairway landing, and continued to drive down a second ramp built over the bottom stairs and across the roadway. The motorcycle struck the concrete sidewalk curb, the worker was thrown off the motorcycle and propelled through a plate glass window of a building.”
According to sources: “to say an unqualified person was put in this position is absolutely untrue. She was the best candidate for the job.”
The production of the movie resumed after 48 hours after the accident and Ryan Reynolds observed a moment of silence with the cast and crew. It comes a month after another stuntman John Bernecker died on the sets of Walking Dead after he missed the safety pad from a 20-feet fall also deemed an accident.
The Deadpool sequel is not directly linked to X-Men universe, but there will be plenty of references to X-Men movies especially Wolverine.
The plot details are yet to be revealed. We can expect more set photos, leaks, teasers, behind-the-scenes footage etc. in the coming weeks. The movie is a hard R and will be over the top when it comes to trolling fellow superheroes and villains.
Deadpool 2 is right on schedule and will be releasing on June 1, 2018 with a tribute to Harris for sure.
