Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Created a Major Plot Hole in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 opened this week with an overwhelming response. The movie, on the whole, was a masterpiece, and easily establishes Marvel as the best ever film franchise that ever existed. However, if you have already watched the movie, despite its genius, has a major plot hole which can’t be explained so easily. SPOILERS AHEAD! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK.

HERE IS THE MAJOR PLOT HOLE FROM GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2:

Now, in the film we see, Ego, Peter’s father, and his evil plan of a celestial attack to conquer the universe. He plants his seeds all over the universe in order to take complete control over the universe. One such seed is also planted on Earth and we see a celestial attack on Earth as well during the climax. Now, if Ego hadn’t been stopped by Peter, the whole planet would have become a part of a Living Planet (Ego’s part). That is the sort of thing in which AVENGERS should interfere right? A celestial attack isn’t enough to call in the mightiest heroes of Earth?

Guardians of the Galaxy 2-Earth-SceneThe plot hole can be explained by the mere fact that Guardians of the Galaxy 2 isn’t set in 2017. It is set in 2014, a few months after the events of the first part. The reason is simple Groot has only grown into a twig. So, that puts the events of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 between Captain America: Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

This means that Avengers were together then, so they should have interfered and fought this off. Or, there should have been a mention somewhere of such a huge celestial attack. It wasn’t mentioned in Captain America: Civil War or even Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D for that matter. Thus to fit in Baby Groot, they might have committed their first mistake.

Now, the only way this plot hole can be explained is that as soon as Peter killed Ego, his whole parts were destroyed and left nothing behind. Thus, the threat was killed off even before Avengers could respond. There is no other explanation other than this. Otherwise, James Gunn has a lot of explaining to do.
