Here’s A Big Surprise For Marvel Fans In The GOTG Vol. 2

Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 will introduce a significant character for the lead character Peter Quill. The first movie had focused on how the character ended in the Marvel universe, with some unanswered questions about his origins. The sequel is reportedly focused on the relationships of the characters, and the most prominent will be Quill and his father’s relationship.

In the comics, Peter Quill’s father is actually J’Son of Spartax but Marvel Cinematic Universe has changed it up with the character Ego The Living Planet. Kurt Russell is set to play the character for the movie and judging from the first reveal of the character, and judging from the picture, the question of if Ego will be planet form comes into question.

James Gunn, director of Guardians Of The Galaxy: Volume 2 recently sat down for an interview with Complex magazine where he talked at length about what should be expected of Ego in the film. Gunn said:

“Ego is a living planet who is able to manifest himself in different ways he’s been alone for millions of years and he’s learned how to control the molecules around him in such a way as to create avatars of themselves, such as Kurt Russell. I think Ego was a very lonely character out there by himself and went off in search of love and perhaps found it in Quill’s mother.”

In the first Guardians film, Yondu had called Ego a “jackass” while Peter’s mother called him “an angel” who came from the sky. To what length each description is truth will only be seen in the sequel.

Although, if Ego is anything like his son, he would not be the most mercurial of characters as he is often depicted in the comics.MCU has taken liberties with the character(his appearance for one), so there is a possibility that the same would happen to his personality as well.
