Universal Studio just released their upcoming movie The Mummy teaser trailer and it seems like a massive hit in the making. The film is set for a June 9,2017 release date and stars superstar Tom cruise. Here are some facts you might want to know after seeing the exciting new trailer.
It Is A Reboot That Will Focus on Horror
The upcoming movie is actually a reboot of the 1999 Stephen Sommer’s movie The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. Unlike the original film, this upcoming movie will not have a comedic backdrop but a much darker root. The screenwriter Jon Spaihts said to Variety in April 2012:
“I see it as the sort of opportunity I had with ‘Prometheus’: to go back to a franchise’s roots in dark, scary source material and simultaneously open it up to an epic scale we haven’t seen before,”
It Is a Part Of Universal’s Universal Monsters Universe
Universal has taken Marvel Cinematic Universe’s blueprint and is creating their own cinematic universe, only with monsters. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Universal hired screenwriters Noah Hawley (TV’s Fargo), Aaron Guzikowski (Hugh Jackman’s Prisoners) and Ed Solomon (Men In Black) Chris Morgan and Alex Kurtzman whom they have collectively are dubbed the “Monster Men.” The team will be responsible for interlocking monsters like The Mummy, Dracula, The Invisible Man and The Wolfman.
The Movie Is Definitely Not Campy Like The Original Film
The teaser trailer for The Mummy has been released and it seems like it has left the campy element from the original film. The Tom Cruise starrer seems to be much like the star’s other movies- a thriller with a fast pace and a scary looking antagonist.
The Film Features Dr. Jekyll
The Mummy seems to be a set up for the upcoming extended universe as it prominently features Dr. Jekyll, played by Russel Crowe. Jekyll seems to be a prominent element of the film as he is quite knowledgeable about the newly resurrected ancient princess.
