We are actually aware of the fact that the upcoming movie is a sequel to a particular movie. Sequels can actually attract more audience than a standalone film. This theory is also applicable to movie franchises. But before the release, some movies hide the fact that they are actually sequels. The Road Warrior
The Road Warrior directed by George Miller was released in the year 1981. The star cast of the movie includes Mel Gibson, Bruce Spence, Virginia Hey, and Emil Minty. The Road Warrior was actually a sequel to the 1979 blockbuster hit Mad Max and no one was aware of this fact until the movie hit the screens. The title of the movie was simply kept as ‘The Road Warrior’ and the makers of the film didn’t reveal the secret before the release of the movie. Later the movie was titled as Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.
Desperado
Desperado directed by Robert Rodriguez was released in the year 1985. The star cast of the movie includes Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Danny Trejo, and Steve Buscemi. Desperado was a sequel to the 1992 Robert Rodriguez film El Mariachi. The movie (El Mariachi) was Spanish and was completely shot in Mexico. Even though the lead actors from El Mariachi returned to Desperado, the audience never thought that it would a sequel to El Mariachi. Desperado was originally titled as El Pistolero but later changed the title upon the studio’s (Columbia Pictures) request. Another sequel titled as Once Upon a Time in Mexico was released in 2003 and the audience were surprised to see its connection with the previous flicks. These three movies are collectively known as the Mexican Trilogy.
Army of Darkness
Army of Darkness is directed by Sam Raimi and was released in the year 1992. The star cast of the movie includes Bruce Campbell, Marcus Gilbert, Ted Raimi, and Embeth Davidtz. Army of Darkness is the third installment in the Evil Dead franchise and this fact remained as a secret until its initial release. The Universal Pictures wanted to surprise the audience and that’s why they maintained a secrecy with the title. Medieval Dead and Evil Dead 3: Army of Darkness were the two titles proposed by Sam Raimi. But universal Pictures refused to keep both these titles and the movie was released with the title, Army of Darkness.
