Did Marvel edit the scene of Loki from Avengers: Age of Ultron?

The last time we saw Loki was in Thor: The Dark World when he was sitting on the throne pretending to be Odin. His absence in the major follow-up to the successful “The Avengers” which re-assembled the Marvel superheroes including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye to take on the evil AI Ultron who has absolutely gone rogue as he is hell-bent on human extinction to serve his sinister ends.

The Earth’s mightiest heroes were joined by another AI programmed by Tony Stark with the support of Bruce Banner – VISION played by Paul Bettany who helped Avengers defeat Ultron. The disappearance of Loki was palpable and unusual. Well, we learned from Idris Elba (Heimdall) that Tom Hiddleston was supposed to feature in a scene where Thor is having these terrible visions as he was controlled by Scarlett Witch, while Heimdall did make an appearance but Loki was nowhere to be seen.

Tom Hiddleston confirmed that he did shoot a cameo for Avengers: Age of Ultron but it didn’t make it into the final cut of the movie.

Joss Whedon (Director, Avengers: Age of Ultron) told MTV News in an interview

“We did shoot something, but it didn’t play.” “The movie has so much. It’s so filled. We didn’t want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it, but I understood the decision that there were now too many voices in the chorus.

He further added, “At some point, the embarrassment of riches is actually embarrassing.”

The deleted scene featuring Tom Hiddleston in Avengers: Age of Ultron will most likely be included in the Blu-ray and DVD-release, while there is going to be a full-fledged return of God of Mischief in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok to be released on November 3, 2017
