The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Season 3 ended on a satisfactory note when Lincoln decided to sacrifice his life to take down Hive for good. The fans have a mixed feeling about the whole season, according to them, it was little better than season 1, but couldn’t even come close to season 2. The show-makers promised to adapt Secret warriors storyline from comics, but they couldn’t do justice to the In-humans plot particularly Lash.
Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson), who is the lead character in the series spoke with EW about the possible impact of Captain America Civil War on the next season and who should be the next director of S.H.I.E.L.D. He said:
“I was not given a clear answer. I don’t know that it’s been determined. I thought I was going to find out when I saw Civil War, but it’s not at all clear. It all depends on when the glorious Nick Fury returns from the cold and the shadows. I suspect, in the wake of the Sokovia Accords and the end of Civil War, the people involved in choosing who the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be are other than in-house S.H.I.E.L.D. people. If I know my government bureaucracies, I have a feeling it will be someone somewhat less qualified than Coulson to run S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Clark Gregg further said “I wasn’t pissed about it at all. They had an episode very early on after he was made director that said heavy is the head that wears the crown. I think that’s true. It was a job he was given. Maybe in the back of his mind, he dreamed of being the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. someday, but it wasn’t his lifelong dream. I’d love it if it was Agent May. That would be magnificent. She has earned that right and she is a commander that Coulson would absolutely follow with absolute loyalty.”
It makes perfect sense for the show to demote Coulson and put someone else in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D, as he openly turned down General Talbot’s plea to register all assets and agents (including In-humans) as part of the Sokovia Accords, moreover his role model Steve Rogers/Captain America also refused to sign while Tony Stark/Iron Man did do it.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 will premiere on ABC in fall 2016.
