10 of History’s Mysteries

Many strange occurrences have happened throughout the course of man’s existence on this planet. Mysteries that have tried to be solved by some of the best scholars and historians for centuries.

Some are ancient, some are current, but these next 10 mysteries will likely never be explained.

The assassination of John F. Kennedy

source

JFK, was an American politician who served as the 35th President of the United States from January 1961 until he was assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963 by a sniper in The Texas School Book Depository.

Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested that afternoon as a person of interest in the crime. Dallas nightclub owner Jack Ruby mortally wounded Oswald two days later in a jail corridor.

The United States House Select Committee on Assassinations(HSCA) agreed with the conclusion that Oswald fired the shots that killed the president, but also concluded that Kennedy was probably assassinated as the result of a conspiracy.

The Chrystal Skulls

source

The crystal skulls are human skull carvings made of clear or milky white quartz (also called “rock crystal”), claimed to be pre-Columbian Mesoamerican artifacts by their alleged finders; however, none of the specimens made available for scientific study have been authenticated as pre-Columbian in origin.

One of the more believable theories surrounding the Skulls is that they were carved by the Mayans or the Aztecs. Other people believe they came from the the lost city of Atlantis.

Some even claim aliens created the Skulls and sent them to earth. Regardless of the wide range of theories surrounding their origins, the real makers of the Crystal Skulls has never been determined.

The Dancing Plague of 1518

source

The Dancing Plague (or Dance Epidemic) of 1518 was a case of dancing mania that occurred in Strasbourg, Alsace (then part of the Holy Roman Empire) in July 1518. Around 400 people took to dancing for days without rest, and, over the period of about one month, some of those affected died of heart attack, stroke, or exhaustion.

Historical documents, including “physician notes, cathedral sermons, local and regional chronicles, and even notes issued by the Strasbourg city council” are clear that the victims danced. It is not known why these people danced, some even to their deaths.

The Devil’s Footprints

source

Early on the morning of 9 February 1855, people in towns across southern Devon awoke to find a single line of hoof-like marks in the deep snow as if they had been branded with a hot iron.

The Times said the marks were found over a distance of 40 miles on both sides of the Exe, as if “some strange and mysterious animal endowed with the power of ubiquity” had created them during the night.

The Shroud of Turin

source
The Shroud of Turin or Turin Shroud is a length of linen cloth bearing the image of a man that is believed by some Christians to be the burial shroud of Jesus of Nazareth.

Three radiocarbon dating tests in 1988 have concluded that the age of the cloth only goes back to the Middle Ages. The shroud is kept in the royal chapel of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, northern Italy.

The Tarim Mummies

source

The Tarim mummies are a series of mummies discovered in the Tarim Basin in present-day Xinjiang,China, which date from 1800 BC, to the first centuries BC.

But more amazing than the discovery itself was the astonishing fact that the mummies were blond haired and long nosed. The mummies share many typical Europoid body features (elongated bodies, angular faces, recessed eyes), and many of them have their hair physically intact, ranging in color from blond to red to deep brown, and generally long, curly and braided.

Its interesting to me that with all of today’s technological advancements and the ever increasing wealth of knowledge being accumulated by today’s brilliant minds, that some things just can’t be explained.

Maybe someday these questions and more will be answered, but I have a feeling they won’t.
